A Short History Of Artificial Grass
Artificial grass has come a long way since it first showed up back in 1966. It actually started at the Houston Astrodome in Texas – they had this indoor stadium where real grass wouldn’t grow properly, so they needed to come up with something else. That’s when they installed what became known as AstroTurf. The whole thing was developed by a team at Monsanto Industries in the early 1960s. They originally called it “ChemGrass” (not the catchiest name, right?), but after it was such a hit at the Astrodome, they rebranded it as AstroTurf. That was really the beginning of everything. Humans have around 6 million olfactory receptors, while dogs have up to 100–300 million, depending on the breed. Even more impressive, the part of a dog’s brain dedicated to analyzing scents is proportionally 40 times larger than ours. When your dog is exploring the yard with their nose to the ground, they’re “reading” detailed information almost instantly — who passed by, their emotional state, their health, and even their diet or stress level.
